How to maintain vibrant hair colour

So, you’ve just walked out the salon with your fresh, vibrant hair but want to keep it looking its best in between appointments.

Whether you’ve had a new colour all over, balayage, highlights, lowlights, or just grey coverage, don’t risk your vibrant hue fading fast!

Take a look at our 5 top tips to keep your freshly coloured locks, bolder for longer.

Wash hair less often

This may worry some of you, but don’t be afraid! It goes without saying, the more you wash your hair, the quicker the colour will fade. Whenever hair gets wet, each strand of hair swells causing small amounts of colour pigment to seep out. This is why extending your hair wash cycle is a must to keep your hair looking fresh! Look at adding a dry shampoo to your routine to keep your hair looking it’s best between washes.

Use a colour care shampoo

When it does come to hair wash day, the secret to not letting colour hair fade is to use a colour care shampoo. Find an antioxidant-rich shampoo to protect your shade in between salon appointments. Look out for products that specifically state that it is a colour protecting or colour safe formula.

Heat exposure

Hair dryers, straightening irons, and curling tongs can compromise your radiant colour. Using heat protection spray will safe guard your hair from heat whilst nourishing your locks from root to tip.

Why not embrace your natural hair texture by skipping the heat and allowing your hair to airdry? Use a texturizing spray from the mid-length of your hair to the tip and scrunch for best results.

Treat yourself to a hair mask

  • Well-conditioned, nourished hair = glowing hair for longer.  A weekly hair mask can add that extra healing nourishment to repair damage, increase shine and importantly – keep that colour strong! Apply after using your go to colour protecting shampoo through the middle to the ends of your hair to increase colour intensity and shine.
  •

    Have regular trims

For healthy, coloured hair, regular trims are necessary. Keeping ends freshly trimmed means a healthier hair base allowing hair dye to be absorbed into the hair fully. Ask your stylist for this to be added to your service when you book your colour appointment.
