Your Ultimate Summer Hair Survival Guide

Summer is here and while we love the sunshine, long days, and beach vibes, our hair? Not always a fan.

Heat, UV rays, humidity, and saltwater can all take a toll on your hair, leaving it dry, dull, and hard to manage. But don’t worry, we’ve created the Ultimate Summer Hair Survival guide. Whether you’re jetting off somewhere sunny or enjoying a UK staycation, here are our top hair care tips you need to know, all in one handy guide to keep your hair healthy, happy, and looking its best.

1. Protect your hair from the sun

You wouldn’t skip SPF on your skin, so don’t forget your hair! Prolonged sun exposure can weaken hair structure, cause colour fade, and dry out your scalp.
Use a UV-protecting spray or leave-in conditioner with UV protection before heading out. For even better protection, wear a hat or scarf to match your outfit and your style.

2. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Between heat, swimming, and air con, your hair loses moisture fast in the summer.
Treat your hair to a deep conditioning treatment weekly. Experts say that a moisturising shampoo and nourishing mask after your trip, is the key to healthy hair and nourishment.
Better yet, give your hair the salon treatment.  Ask your Supercuts stylist at your next visit to recommend a professional in-salon treatment

3. Leave the hot tools at home

Your hair is already going through enough with the UV from the sun, chlorine and sand. Adding extra heat into the mix with your hot tools such as straightening irons or curling tongs, can cause your hair to become even more dry and brittle.
Opt for a more natural styling technique which brings out the best of your hair. Rough dry your hair or air dry, style your hair into a plait or twist, then let it loose for gorgeous beachy waves for days. Use a texturing spray to add that little extra!

4. Clean water is your bestie

Chlorine and saltwater can be harsh on your hair, causing dryness and even breakage.
Rinse your hair with fresh water as soon as you can before and after a dip. Wetting your hair with clean water before swimming reduces how much chlorine or salt it absorbs.

5. Trim and treat

Sun, sea, and styling can lead to dry ends and split hairs.  Make sure you are having regular trims every 6 - 8 weeks to keep your hair healthy and strong. At Supercuts, you can just walk-in at a time convenient for you. No appointment needed. Whilst you are in, upgrade your appointment with a salon treatment to add some extra needed nourishment and care to your hair.
