How often should you visit your stylist
Finding the right timing between salon visits is key to protecting the overall look of your hair, it’s health and longevity. While there may be a different salon schedule depending on your hair type and colour, having a general guide helps you plan ahead and avoid that “too late” moment where colour fades, roots become noticeable, or the shape of a cut is lost. A well-timed routine keeps hair looking it’s best rather than looking overdue.
Colour Services
For colour services, timing varies depending on the technique.
Toners
Toners will typically need refreshing every 4–6 weeks to maintain tone and prevent unwanted warmth or dullness.
Blonde
If you are a blonde, the time between appointments depends on the technique. Highlights generally sit within a 6–12-week window, depending on how low or high maintenance the look is. Full bleach, high maintenance blondes typically need to visit every 4 – 6 weeks due to colour fade and root growth.
Roots
Root maintenance is more frequent. We would recommend booking for a Root Refresh every 4–8 weeks, as regrowth becomes more visible.
Balayage or lived in colour
This look is designed to be lower maintenance. You can often wait longer between full appointments, anything from 4 – 6 months is recommended. Interim services such as a gloss, toner or refresh around the 10 –12-week mark helps keep your hair looking it’s best.
Haircuts
Having regular haircuts help maintain your hair health. Hair grows on average ½ an inch per month. To maintain your hair style and shape, we recommend coming and see us for a haircut every 6–8 weeks. A maintenance haircut will also remove any split ends which is key to preventing breakage and keeps ends looking full and healthy, rather than thin and wispy.
Treatments
Having a professional salon treatment plays a key role in maintaining the condition of the hair but they are often overlooked. We would recommend having an in-salon treatment every 4–6 weeks. This can significantly improve strength, shine, colour longevity and manageability.
The best salon schedule is a collaborative one between you and your stylist. Lifestyle, hair type, and desired look all influence timing, but having a good relationship with your salon and stylist along with your expectations and goals helps your schedule remain consistent. When salon visits are thought out and times correctly, your hair will look great on the day and in the weeks that follow.
