The Products You Need To Update Your Spring Hair Care Routine

Done with all that sub-zero weather? We feel you. In fact, we're so done with winter that we've decided to start prepping for spring. We're preppred with a brand-new spring hair care routine for those warmer months.

To inspire your own spring hair care routine, we’ve pulled together this list of must-have products - including a few old favourites, and a handful of super-hot new crushes that are gonna shake up your style…

Colour Shampoos

Old Faithful: Matrix Biolage Colorlast Shampoo

This brilliant shampoo is a #teamsupercuts favourite, and with good reason too! It has a super gentle formula that’s 100% free from parabens, which means that it’s nice and gentle on damaged hair. Matrix Biolage’s ColorLast is also one of the few shampoos that’s enriched with orchid extract which helps to really nourish your locks. In short, it’s the perfect shampoo for hair that’s struggling to make the transition, and it's light enough to prevent the kind of greasy build-up that’s all too common at this time of year.

New Crush: Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Shampoo

Now that things are starting to heat up a bit, moisturising shampoos are a must. Sebastian’s Color Ignite isn’t just any old moisturising shampoo though, it’s got a special colour moisture complex that’s designed to target coloured hair strands and deliver an extra-large dose of moisture - which is absolutely perfect if (like us) you’re planning to head outdoors and soak up some sunshine this spring. Secondly, this wonderful little shampoo also contains all of the nourishing ingredients needed to replenish and restructure damaged hair fibres so if your hair has suffered over the winter months, that’ll get you back on track in no time.

Colour Protect Conditioners

Old Faithful: Matrix Biolage Colorlast Conditioner

This god-tier conditioner is a bit of a spring/summer essential in our eyes. It provides the same -seasonally-appropriate - orchid extracts that you’ll find in Matrix Biolage’s Colorlast shampoo. Plus a few deeply-nourishing ingredients that have been hand-picked for their ability to dive deep into your hair, and smooth over its delicate cuticle layer. It’s an incredibly gentle conditioner that’s designed to lock in moisture and protect your hair from the weather. This makes it a great pick for coloured hair, frizzy hair or hair that’s prone to drying out too quickly.

New Crush: Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Conditioner

Blessed with a foaming, multi-bubble formula, Sebastian’s brand-new conditioner promises to lock in moisture and amplify colour pigments. It’s also one of the few conditioners that’ll fight back against frizz, which is super-important in the humid months of spring. It’s slightly more nourishing than your average conditioner and it's been carefully formulated to protect coloured hair too. The only downside? It is also quite moisturising so if you have very thick or curly hair, you might find it a bit too heavy.

Styling Products

Old Faithful: ghd Heat Protect Spray

One of our stylists’ top picks, this heat protect spray is a lightweight option that’s designed to protect your hair from overstyling. Why’s that important in spring? Well, chances are you’re about to spend a lot more time outdoors, which means more time spent styling your hair and... Yep, you guessed it. More heat damage. Luckily a few spritzes of this is all you need. It doesn't leave a nasty coating on your hair either. In fact, you’ll barely be able to tell its there. The only noticeable difference will be that your hair is stronger, brighter and less prone to frizz.

New Crush: KMS Hair Stay Firm Finishing Hair Spray

This awesome finishing spray locks in your style and provides some seriously long-lasting hold. It’s also one of the few finishing sprays to have a totally flake free formula which we absolutely adore. If you’re looking for something that’ll always give your hair that salon-fresh look, this is the one!

Hair Masks and Treatments

Old Faithful: Kerastase Nutritive Masque Magistral

Kerastase’s Nutritve Masque Magistral has got a thermo-reactive formula that soaks into your hair, and then activates when it gets hot to prevent dryness. It’s also packed with deeply nourishing ingredients that are designed to keep your hair looking hydrated and glossy no matter the weather. Best of all though? It's incredibly easy to use. Just scoop out a handful, massage it into damp hair and then leave it for five minutes before rinsing off. Presto! Soft, hydrated and outdoor-ready hair.

New Crush: Morccanoil Hair Light & Body Duo

We absolutely love both of the products packed into this box, and the fact they can be used on both your hair *and* your skin is really just the icing on the cake. Since we’re here to talk about hair, we’ll start with the light treatment. This awesome regenerative oil is enriched with antioxidant-rich argan oil and several shine-boosting vitamins, plus its deeply hydrating in its own right and 100% residue free. If - like most of us - you struggle with winter damage, this stuff will sort it straight out. It’ll also leave your hair looking super glossy and well-nourished too. The Dry Body Oil is no slouch either mind. Using a similar blend of enriched oils, it can quickly clear up dry patches and leave your skin feeling silky smooth. Put them both together and you have the ultimate spring pamper-product.

Styling Tools

Old Faithful: ghd Gold Stylers

The literal definition of old but gold, these classic stylers are a staple kit. They heat up in about 30 seconds, they’ve got free-floating ceramic plates that literally refuse to snag your hair and they’ve got built in Dual-Zone technology that allows them to constantly check and adjust the heat to keep it at the optimal temperature for styling hair. And - as if that wasn’t enough - they come with a 2 year warranty. Talk about a bargain!

New Crush: ghd Curve Soft Curl Tong

These styling tongs are a must-have for some of the hottest styles, with faster styling, and reduced heat damage. They’re also beautifully curved - which makes them ideal for those classic hollywood waves - and if that wasn’t enough, they also come with a professional length cord so you don’t have to move the mirror every time you want to style your hair, or mess around with extension cables.

Oh, and don't forget the trim

We've talked a lot about winter hair damage in this post - and with good reason too! Sadly one of the worst side effects of that cold winter weather is split ends and damaged cuticles. A lot of top-tier stylists recommend a quick trim before spring sets in, just to chop off all that damaged hair, and make sure your set up for the warm weather. Keen to get started? Just pop into your local Supercuts salon and let our expert stylists take care of the rest. You don’t even need an appointment, and they’ll always be happy to get your hair all-set for spring.
