Has the cold weather wreaked havoc on your hair? Split ends, frizz, static, and dryness... but how do you deal with these problems?
Our Creative Director, Kieron Fowles, told us that “making sure your hair is nourished will tackle a lot of these issues. Giving your hair the care, nutrients, and protein, it needs will help strengthen it.” But where do you start?
Keep reading to find out Kieron’s top tips for keeping your hair healthy during the colder seasons!
TIP #1 - CLEANSE AND CONDITION
A key point of Kieron’s was to focus on cleansing and conditioning in the colder months! He told us that ‘hair is an extension of your skin, so you need to treat it as such! Like you would take extra care of your skin in the winter to tackle dry skin, you should also be applying products that will provide moisture.” Cleansing and conditioning your hair will help to wash off any elements which are causing damage.
When the hair lacks moisture, it can become brittle which can lead to thinning, breakage, and even hair loss. That is why it is so important to be using the right products for your hair to ensure it gets the ingredients it needs to stay healthy and hydrated. One of our favourites is the Moroccanoil Hydration range! Its selection of shampoo, conditioner, and hair masks provides nutrients to the hair which will help maintain its natural moisture balance, leaving hair with a healthy shine and super soft feel.

TIP #2 - DON'T WASH TOO OFTEN
We know this may read like it contradicts our first point, however hear us out.
It's important not to wash your hair every day! Washing daily can strip hair of its natural oils, leading to dryness and breakage. Utilise dry shampoo to freshen up your locks or use oils to create a trendy slicked back look. Not only will you look cool, but you will keep hair nourished throughout the day!
Kieron also recommends using hair masks and oils in between washes to restore lost moisture, and ensure your hair is getting the protein it requires.
TIP #3 - GET REGULAR TRIMS
Did you know that regular hair trims can also help prevent dry hair?
Split ends contribute to dryness and can lead to hair becoming tangled quite quickly. Not only does this make styling difficult, but it can lead to the hair breaking quite easily, resulting in hair loss. Having regular trims, to minimise split ends, will encourage healthy hair growth.
Kieron told us that “when it comes to styling; you should be mindful of how frequently you use heated tools.
To avoid drying out your hair, avoid using them on a daily basis. Create styles that don't require heat, and if you do use tools, use heat protection spray and oils to keep hair sleek and hydrated.”

TIP #4 - START YOUR NIGHT TIME HAIR CARE ROUTINE
Kieron’s final top tip was to focus on a night-time hair care routine! Elements such as heat, cold weather, pollution, etc can build up on the hair and cause damage. These are factors we can’t avoid as we face them daily, therefore at least one night a week, take a little extra time to pamper your hair by supplying an overnight mask.
Kieron told us that “you should apply the same logic to your hair care routine as you would to your nightly skin care routine. After a full day of wearing makeup, you may apply an overnight moisturiser to your face to treat it, which is exactly what you should consider for your hair - especially if you don't wash it frequently!"
In between washes, night masks will be your besties. Kieron advises that “applying a mask before bed allows your hair to absorb moisture and soak in the ingredients it requires to repair and revitalise itself overnight. Not only will you be giving your hair the nutrients it requires, but you will also wake up with silky soft hair that looks renewed and smells wonderful!”
