OUR TOP 5 WINTER TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR

OUR TOP 5 WINTER TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR

Eh, Winter! Winter and hair just don’t mix – the cold weather dries it out, which can lead to split ends and damage. Luckily, we’re here to help!

If you’re looking to keep your hair healthy this winter, you’ve come to the right place. Read our top five winter tips by Creative Director, Kieron Fowles to help keep your locks luscious all season.

DON'T SHAMPOO TOO OFTEN

You know the saying, ‘there’s too much of a good thing’. That’s true when it comes to washing your hair. We all want to keep our hair clean but overusing shampoo can damage hair. Your scalp produces important oils that shampoo strips, which can leave hair feeling dry.

To beat dry hair, wash your locks every two to three days, but remember some hair types might need more. If you want to wash daily, leave out the shampoo occasionally and just rinse. Don’t forget to head to your nearest salon, to shop our excellent range of professional products and get recommendations from our stylists.

DON'T SKIP CONDITIONER

Conditioner is your new bestie this winter. It protects your hair from the seasonal elements by forming a protective layer around your hair follicles and cuticles, stopping it from drying out.

Don’t be tempted to overdo the conditioner and rinse it out correctly. Too much product can cause hair to have a greasy, oily texture. Balance and finding the right conditioner will help maintain your mane. You can pop into your local salon, where we sell a range of expert, moisturising conditioners to hydrate your hair without making it greasy.

NO TO HEAT OR REDUCE USE

Next time you’re about to pick up the straightener, think again. Using heat on your locks changes the shape of your hair’s keratin strands. This causes your hair strands to weaken and leads to breakage. This is especially important if you have coloured hair – the heat makes your strands highly porous, which causes colour to fade faster.

The best way to stop heat damage is by using no heat at all. If you can’t quite put the curling iron away, try reducing how often you use it and always make sure you use heat protection spray. There are various techniques, like twisting your curls before they set, to make your hair hold its style for longer.

KEEP UP WITH HAIRCUTS

Regular haircuts help prevent damage and stop spit ends travelling up the hair shaft. A trim will also help keep your hair looking sleek, and healthy – perfect for party season.

It’s especially important to keep on top of haircuts if you have chemically damaged hair or fine fraying ends. We know you want to hang onto your length but skipping a haircut can make damage worse and mean you need to lose more length in the long run.

It’s extremely important to get a trim every six to eight weeks to stop spit ends from forming, which could lead to hair breakage over time. Head to your nearest Supercuts salon on a regular basis to help maintain healthy locks. We offer a range of services from dry cuts to our Supercut that includes a shampoo, condition, cut and blow-dry. You don’t need an appointment; you can just walk in.

OIL YOUR HAIR

If you want to beat dry straw-like hair this festive season, try using oil. Hair oil treatments will nourish dry strands and help your hair keep its shiny and silky feel throughout the colder seasons.

There’s lots of hair oil treatments that can help your locks this winter. You could have a pampering season with a hydrating oil-based hair mask or try a leave-in treatment for a quick-fix. If you’re unsure of which products to use, head to your nearest salon for advice. You can buy top-notch hair products from your local Supercuts salon.

Embracing a winter hair care routine is essential to keep your locks healthy, vibrant, and resilient against the harsh elements of the season. By incorporating the right products, protective styles, and maintaining proper hydration, you can ensure that your hair remains luscious and beautiful, even in the coldest months. Don't forget to head into your local Supercuts for advice on the best products and haircare practices from our expert stylists.
